Vasti is the specialized Panchakarma procedure to cure Vata related disorders. It is used to promote elimination of the vitiated vatadosha out through the rectum. In this Panchakarma procedure medicated oil or decoction is administered through the anus to pacify the aggravated Vatadosha. Usually Vasti is of two types –
NiroohaVasti in which herbal decoction is used and AnuvasanVasti in which herbal oil is used in form of Enema.Since medicines reach your bowels directly without enzymatic actions, its effectiveness is very high. Hence, vasthi is also done along with many other Ayurvedic treatments. Due to its potential healing ability, vasthi is considered as “half the treatment”, for many of these types of diseases. Medicated enemas are used for various specific reasons. In general, this treatment is used to flush the loosened doshas out through the intestinal tract. There are over 100 specific enemas listed in Ayurveda.
First as a preparatory process, the patient is given oil massage (abhyanga) and fomentation (swedana). After that in a special posture the patient is administered with an enema consisting herbal decoction or herbal oil. Then the patient has to wait till the enema material comes out through the anal passage. Usually this procedure takes 45 minutes to 1 hour time.
Urovasthi is described as the herbal oil treatment, which is an important Panchakarma therapy that is used for the treatment of muscular chest pain. It cures problems like pain in the sternum, deep seated anxiety, chest pain and many others. The therapy is the best of its kind as it can restore the elasticity of the skin as well.
Kashaya Vasti is one type of vasti in which heat is applied to specific portion of the body by retaining warm medicated oils. A dam of herbal dough is built on the affected area, poured with oil and then left to rest. As a result, it helps in rejuvenating your body by relieving pain, tension and swelling. This Ayurvedic therapy helps to get rid from chronic and acute back pain, prolapsed disc, lumbar spondylitis, sciatica and osteoporosis.

In sneha vasti, only medicated oils / ghrithams are used, whereas in Kashaya vasti, a mixture of various ingredients with a predominance of decoctions is used.

The action and qualities of the liquid used in Shirodhara counters the qualities of the out of balance doshas. It soothes, nourishes and pacifies the doshas through the application of the liquid to the forehead, scalp and nervous system.
During Shirodhara, certain amount of pressure and vibration is created over the forehead with the stream of oil being poured onto the forehead. The vibration is amplified by the hollow sinus present in the frontal bone. The vibration is then transmitted inwards through the fluid medium of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This vibration along with little temperature may activate the functions of thalamus and the basal fore brain which then brings the amount of serotonin and catecholamine to the normal stage inducing the sleep. Prolonged and continuous pressure due to pouring of the medicated liquid may cause tranquillity of mind and induce natural sleep.
Shirodhara Procedure:
A pot, with a hole and a yarn wick fitted to it, would be hung up over the forehead of the patient, who will be lying on the treatment table. The medicated liquid, which may be medicated oil or milk, would be poured into the pot and it would be gradually trickled onto the head. A band would be tied or a rolled towel is placed on the forehead to prevent the oil from dripping into the eyes of the patient. The treatment would be carried out for about 45 minutes in a day. Shirodhara treatment helps to calm and restore the nerves, release stored emotions, purify the mind, remove fatigue, relieve from anxiety, insomnia, chronic headaches, nervousness, and so on.

Papaya is very delicious fruit. Its tree is long, thin and soft. Its tree has no branches. Its fruit is called papaya. Raw papaya is green and ripe papaya is yellow. Black seeds are found in internal parts of papaya and a ropy liquid is found on these seeds. Its tree is found in many state of India and it is grown in any season. Green vegetables and pickle is also made by raw papaya. The sauce and kachumar is made by ripe papaya.
Taking papaya daily eliminates constipation and enhances digestive power. It also eliminates stomach gas. The pepsin enzyme, which is a digestive juice, is found in papaya in good quantity. It is not only proteindigestive element but also helps easy bowls movement, and cleans the bowls.
Papaya is easily digestible fruit. It enhances appetite, and strengthens the body. It cures the diseases of liver and spleen, and jaundice. Taking papaya removes the stomach disorder, and improves the digestive power. Taking papaya juice or its milk cures anorexia, insomnia (sleeplessness), headache, indigestion and acidity. Taking papaya juice stops sour belching and cures stomach disease and heart disease, and removes intestine weakness.
Raw papaya should not be taken in pregnancy. The women who have been suffering form menstruation should not take papaya. Raw papaya is harmful for the patient of syphilis, piles and spermatorrhoea. Abortion can be by taking papaya seeds.

Feeling tired on a regular basis is extremely common. I often get this question from my clients. They say they’re always tired. What can they do? This article has an answer for all your worries about common fatigue.
Fatigue means you feel over-tired or exhausted. When you’re fatigued, there is consistent low energy levels that might interfere with your day to day activities.
The fact is nearly everyone is overtired or overworked from time to time. These are instances of temporary fatigue mostly due to improper sleep, unhealthy or irregular food patterns or work pressure.
On the other hand, if you’re always tired and it isn’t relieved with rest it can impact your psychological and emotional well being.
Ayurveda generally considers fatigue and tiredness a symptom of increased Kapha Dosha. Physical fatigue will most likely be caused by an imbalance in Kapha Dosha. While with mental fatigue, Vata dosha would be the culprit. When it comes to emotional fatigue it can be due to an imbalance in Pitta Dosha.
We all grow up knowing that Fruit is an important food to include in our Diet because it is whole and Fresh and Healthy.
In AYURVEDA, how and when we eat Fruit is important to consider. Fruits should always be eaten on an empty stomach, or before a meal, because fruit goes through the digestive tract more quickly than other foods. When we eat fruit on an empty stomach it helps us to detoxify the body and supplies us with needed energy for weight loss and other activities.
However, when we eat Fruit after a meal, the fruit is prevented from digesting because it is being blocked by the other foods that are ahead of it in line. So the fruit juices come into contact with the other foods, turns into acid, and the whole meal starts to ferment and spoil. When Fruit mixes with other foods, it produces gas, so we feel bloated and burpy.
Ayurveda says that eating whole fruit is preferable to drinking fruit juice. If you want to drink fruit juice, choose fresh fruit juice, never juice from a can. Don’t drink juice that has been heated, as heating juice, or cooking fruit, takes away many of the nutrients. When drinking fruit juice, take sips to mix the juice with saliva for better digestion, don’t take big gulps.
This can be an easy way to know where you stand in term of portions consumed daily.
Two or more small-sized fruits would be equal to one portion. Some examples would include plums, kiwi fruit, six lychees, three apricots, 14 cherries or seven strawberries.
One piece of fruit equals to one portion. Eg a banana, an apple, a pear or an orange.
This one goes for large fruits like melons, papaya, pineapple, etc. One portion would be half a grapefruit, one slice of fruits like melon, papaya, two slices of mango or one large slice of pineapple.
One portion of dried fruit would be somewhere close to 30gms. You can consume one heaped tablespoon of currants or raisins, one tablespoon of mixed fruit, three prunes, two figs or a handful of dried banana chips. Always remember that most dried fruits are high in sugar and can therefore be bad for your teeth. You can try swapping dried fruit for fresh fruit, especially between meals. This way you minimise the possibility of tooth decay by consuming dried fruits as part of your meal..
